Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil Chemical Sign (SOI) for Ethane Cracker, Derivatives Complex

IRVING, Texas (June 24, 2004) - Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil Chemical Company, a division of Exxon Mobil Corporation, announced today that they have signed a Statement of Intent (SOI) to conduct a feasibility study for a world-scale, ethane-based cracker and ethylene derivatives complex in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar. The SOI was signed by H.E. Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, Qatar's second deputy premier, minister of energy and industry and chairman of Qatar Petroleum, and by Mr. Daniel S. Sanders, president, ExxonMobil Chemical Company. More...

 

Gulf Investment Corporation Acquires a 20% Share of Oman Polypropylene Company
Muscat, 28th June 2004 - Oman Oil Company S.A.O.C. (OOC) announced today an in principle agreement for the sale of a 20% interest in Oman Polypropylene LLC (OPP) to Gulf Investment Corporation (GIC). The joint venture is between OOC and LG International of Korea on 80%: 20% basis respectively. The share of GIC will be carved out from OOC’s 80% ownership in the Company.  More...
 

Saudi Aramco's First Horizontal Well
SHAYBAH, June 30, 2004 -- Shaybah-119 is the company's first multilateral horizontal Maximum Reservoir Contact (MRC) well, drilled in the Rub' al-Khali's Shaybah field completed with smart-well technology. The new technology allows better reservoir control and maximizes sweep efficiency, a measurement of how efficiently oil is being withdrawn from a reservoir. More...
 

Lundin Petroleum completes testing in the Munir Block, Iran
Lundin Petroleum AB (“Lundin Petroleum”) announces that the testing program for the Sehqanat-1 well in the Munir Block, Iran has been completed. The first two tests of the Sarawak and the lower part of the Asmari reservoir did not produce commercial quantities of hydrocarbons. Mott MacDonald awarded project management role on new oil pipeline in Oman
Mott MacDonald has been awarded a contract by the Oman Gas Company to project manage the Mina Al Fahal to Sohar crude oil pipeline (MSCP). The 24" diameter, 260 km long pipeline will transport crude oil from the Oman Refinery located at Mina Al Fahal to the Sohar Refinery. The initial 40 km of the pipeline will traverse the main arteries of Muscat municipality. More...

GE Energy Secures $35m Controls Upgrade Project for Algeria's Sonatrach
ATLANTA, GEORGIA (June 29, 2004) — GE Energy announced today that it has received a $35 million contract to upgrade control systems and instrumentation on nearly 100 pipeline booster compressor trains in Algeria. The project covers gas turbines and compressors at numerous compression stations along the Algerian energy giant Sonatrach's natural gas pipelines. Scope for the upgrades will come from GE Energy's optimization services group, which focuses on products and services for optimizing plant and asset performance. More...
 

Rentech Enters MOU for Development of a GTL Plant in Papua New Guinea
Denver, Colorado-Rentech, Inc. (AMEX: RTK) today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the development of a northern pipeline and integrated methane complex to be located in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Participants in the MOU with Rentech will be: the Independent State of Papua New Guinea represented by the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy and the Honorable Sir Moi Avei, KBE, MP, the Minster of Petroleum and Energy (PNG Government); Niugini Gas & Chemicals PTE LTD (NGC) of PNG, with offices in Singapore; and, I&G Venture Capital Company LTD (I&G), headquartered in Seoul, South Korea.  More...
